Here is a compilation of student work I created from the Design Bootcamp course through School of Motion. We were assigned fictional jobs to create storyboards and style frames for real-world clients.

Twitch.tv Super Nova

Twitch.tv is providing live coverage of a huge video game tournament called The Supernova Cup, and they will be running promos. They wanted design boards that would show a cool way to transition from footage to a title card with tune-in information for the tournament.

After researching Twitch’s brand, I chose a design that was colorful, fun, and high energy, to fit their gamer style.

Expedition 100: Mission to Mars

NASA wanted help for the promo of their show about a future mission to Mars. They needed Style Frames and Design Boards. They also requested a treatment on the footage as well as design for all GFX. They wanted it to feel dangerous, awe-inspiring, and cinematic.

Style Frame Option #1. I went for a very warm color palette/gradient map using the red and yellow from the Mission to Mars movie poster.

Style Frame Option #2. I went for a very cool palette to reflect the cold, dangerous mood.

I chose the first style, because the warm, red color palette better fit the idea of the RED planet. After choosing the style, I was asked to board out the full promo, including the footage treatment, full-screen titles, tune-in title card, and the NASA logo.

Sprint Mood Boards

Sprint is launching an ad campaign to promote its “Unlimited Data” plans. They wanted some Mood Boards for art direction, and a mockup of an offer page in one of the styles. They needed the style to be customizable for different offers, and they wanted it to be fun, modern, and possibly edgy.

Mood Board Option #1. This style was focused on fun, travel, and staying connected while on the road.

Mood Board Option #2. This style was focused on speed, tech, and connectivity.

Tokyo Throwdown

Fox is launching a new show called Urban Freestyle: Tokyo Throwdown. The show is a Dance-Competition that takes place in Tokyo, Japan. They were looking for a Show Open design, as well as a Title Design for the show. They wanted it to feel “sexy” and to be inspired by the show’s unique location.

After reviewing a Mood Board of ideas, I created a bright color palette and design that was eye catching and exciting. I used elements from manga such as action lines and halftone patterns to reinforce the location of the competition.

12 Kilometers Trailer GFX

12 Kilometers is a horror film directed by Mike Pecci. The trailer was cut, but needed design. They asked for boards showing a design of the opening Title Card, the transition to footage, a couple of full-frame shots from the trailer, a transition frame, and the end card. The film’s tone is dark, creepy and ominous, and is a throwback to 1980’s horror movies like The Thing.

I took inspiration from the 2018 film Annihilation for the organic imagery and textures of animal bones, fungi, veins, and roots.
